グローバル化が進み、外国に対する壁というものがほとんどなくなった現代社会で必要なことは国際感覚を身に付けるということだとよく言われます。その為にはまず、自分と違う人々やその文化を受け入れ、認めることが大切です。日本にいながら、海外にいた時と同じように自分とは異なる文化や習慣を持つ様々なスタッフや生徒と関わりながら仕事ができるこの素晴らしい環境は私にとって国際感覚を身につける絶好の機会だと感じています。この事は私だけではなく日本人生徒にも当てはまり、英語に溢れ日本の学校では経験できないような色々な国籍の人々や文化が集まる環境で学びたい、国際感覚を身につけたいと考えている生徒にとっても大阪YMCAインターナショナルスクールはぴったりの学校ではないでしょうか。
さて、近年、そうした食生活に環境保護の点から見直しを迫る動きがあります。それは「肉」です。世界的に肉の消費量が増えていくなか、環境への負荷という点から、このままでは食肉の生産は限界を迎えるそうです。そこで、植物由来の「代替肉」を使う動きが広がっています。また、細胞を増殖して作る「培養肉」の研究も進んでいます。特に「代替肉」については、ヴィーガン食専門店などで、すでに口にした人もいるでしょう。
多様な食生活の選択肢の一つとして「代替肉」を食べる人は今後増えていくでしょう。ただ、食肉が問題視される原因となった大量生産と大量消費という行動を見直さなければ、「代替肉」も食肉と同じ運命をたどることになりかねません。私たちの食生活・食文化が、環境とどのような「つながり」をもっているのか。
「家でも頑張って英語で話した方がいいでしょうか。」「バイリンガルに育てたいのですが、英語がある程度できるようになるまでは日本語（あるいは韓国語、スペイン語など英語以外の母国語）の本は読ませない方がいいでしょうか。」
