Our students from ages 3-14 spend some or all of their time at our original home in Nakatsu, just northwest of Osaka’s largest transportation hub, Umeda. Repurposed from a traditional Japanese elementary school, the Nakatsu Campus is now the thriving heart of OYIS.

The modern and purpose-built Tosabori campus opened its doors in August 2020. Located in the Osaka YMCA’s headquarters building in the business district, the Tosabori Campus is an entire floor dedicated to supporting and fostering our secondary students as they pursue their studies.

A passion project of one of our Early Childhood educators, the organic garden has developed on the Nakatsu campus as a place for our younger students to learn about growth, life cycles, caring for living things, and getting good and dirty!
Gardening is educational and develops new skills including:
The Nakatsu campus swimming pool is the source of endless hours of learning and fun. When available, students swim during PE class, and compete against other schools in swimming races. In addition, swimming is an extremely important life skill. The most important reason is that swimming is the only sport which can save your child’s life.
But it is not just fun! Swimming also provides loads of health benefits which can help to keep your children healthy and happy at the same time. For example, swimming keeps your child’s heart and lungs healthy, improves strength and flexibility, increases stamina, and even improves balance and posture.
Another great thing about swimming is that children of any age or ability can take part and it is more accessible for children with additional needs than almost any other sport.
Finally, swimming provides challenges and rewards accomplishments, which helps children to become self-confident and believe in their abilities.
OYIS employs a licensed nurse (看護師) at the Nakatsu campus and has a specialized health center (保健室). We believe that healthy children learn better; educated children grow to raise healthier families. Our school nurse works to assure that children have access to educational opportunities regardless of their state of health.
One of the facilities that we share with the Osaka YMCA is their Tosabori Auditorium, located on the second floor of the Osaka YMCA building. This is a great space for ceremonies, performances, and other large-scale group activities.
One of the great benefits of being connected with the Osaka YMCA is our relationship with the health and wellness aspects of the Y. The Tosabori building is equipped with a full-size gymnasium in the basement, as well as a small workout space and a dance studio. Students can schedule a time to use these spaces or can use time during lunch to stretch their legs and play a little basketball. Even older students like to be active during the day!
The Tosabori building is equipped with a small recording studio – the perfect space for our IBDP Music students to compose and produce their creations. The studio is a small one, but has a mixing board and sound-muffling features. We are looking forward to hearing all the amazing music that comes out of that little space!
