Early Childhood

Ages 3 to 6 / Preschool, Kindergarten A, Kindergarten B

At OYIS, we believe all children are competent, capable, and full of potential. Our Early Childhood Program nurtures the whole child, celebrating each child’s unique potential through a play-responsive, inquiry-based curriculum. We place children at the center of learning, fostering curiosity, creativity, a strong sense of belonging, and a lifelong love of discovery.

International-mindedness is a view of the world in which people see themselves connected to the global community and assume a sense of responsibility to its members. We do this by providing our students with educational opportunities that develop their academic as well as their social, physical, emotional needs through play, inquiry, exploration, and collaboration. This approach helps prepare students to become confident and independent learners that are ready to challenge and change themselves and the world to make it a better place.

It is always heart-warming to see these energetic children come to school and learn how to exist in this world with others.

The Early Childhood programme uses a teaching and learning method called play-based learning. Through play and high levels of engagement, children learn about themselves, the world around them and a wide variety of age-appropriate skills like early literacy and numeracy. It is a highly creative programme with a great deal of exploration and discovery.

These years are an exciting time for growth and exploration for both our students and families, and we look forward to embarking on this learning journey with you.

Learning in the Early Childhood Programme

Play Phonics

Our unique Play Phonics approach introduces children to the world of letters and sounds in a joyful, active way. Through songs, games, storytelling, and hands-on activities, children naturally develop early literacy skills while building a lifelong love for language.

Play Maths

In Play Maths, children engage with numbers, patterns, and problem-solving through playful exploration. Using loose parts, games, and real-world experiences, children develop mathematical thinking in ways that are meaningful, creative, and fun.

Making Learning Visible

Through learning stories, portfolios, and child-led conferences, families are invited to engage in the learning journey, seeing growth, inquiry, and creativity unfold firsthand.
