Vlad has been living in Japan for twelve years and teaching at OYIS for five. Apart from being the IBDP CAS coordinator, he also holds the esteemable positions of Service Learning Coordinator and MYP/DP music teacher.
We are pleased to announce that the OYIS IBDP CAS Program has officially launched! This is another milestone for our Diploma Program as we start our journey as a three-program IB school.
CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) is one of the three elements of the IBDP Program Core along with TOK and EE. Through CAS students are required to take part in a wide range of artistic, sporting, physical, and service-learning experiences that enrich their school life and help them make connections with the academic curriculum and the community. The aims of CAS are to challenge students to explore opportunities for self-determination, collaboration, accomplishment, and enjoyment.
CAS consists of three strands:
Through undertaking their CAS experiences and projects students are required to meet the following seven Learning Outcomes:
In order to successfully execute their ideas students use the IPARD, a 5-stage scaffolding framework that allows them to systematically and gradually plan and carry out their experiences.

Students who are eligible for Grades 10 or 11 in August 2023 are invited to take the 2022 Scholarship Exam. This exam is the first step to potentially receiving the OYIS Achievement Award.
