OYIS Scholarship Exam
We are delighted to announce the Osaka YMCA International School Scholarship Exam for the 2026-2027 academic school year.
The exam will be offered to students currently in Grade 9 (3rd years in Japanese junior high school) and Grade 10 (1st years in Japanese high school). Successful candidates will begin Grades 10 and 11 at Osaka YMCA International School for the 2026-2027 school year.
The exam will take place on January 17th, 2026, in person at Tosabori Campus as well as online for those who wish to take the exam remotely. There are no fees required to participate.
The application for the exam closes on January 10th, 2026.
The OYIS Scholarship Exam is an opportunity for students entering the Diploma Programme to receive up to 100% off school fees depending on exam results and application to the government support fund.
Available to a limited number of students.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be of the following:
- Age: The candidates’ date of birth must be between 1st September 2010 – 31st August 2012 (Grade 10 and Grade 11 for 2026-2027 school year)
- Visa requirement: The candidates must have visas to live in Japan (OYIS does not provide visa sponsorship). The students must live with their parents or legal caregivers.
- Able to relocate or commute to Osaka, Japan.
Please note: OYIS does not have boarding facilities available.
Process
Those students interested in applying for scholarship by way of demonstrating competence in
There will be TWO types of scholarships awarded: academic-based (math & English) and arts-based (visual arts & music).
If you are sitting for the Academic-based Scholarship, please indicate this in your application. This exam will take place in the morning.
If you are sitting for the Arts-based Scholarship, please indicate this as well as which arts discipline you will be focusing on in your application. This exam will require: 1) a portfolio submission 2) an in-person/online interview and 3) an in-person/online audition.
Music:
- Prior to the day: Submit 2 performance pieces (video submission up to 3 minutes each)
- On the day: Be prepared to perform a piece of a similar length and participate in an interview with the music and art team.
Visual Arts:
- Prior to the day: Submit a portfolio of work – this should include at least 2 original artworks, evidence of process and idea development (sketches, research, etc.).
- On the day: Outline the process of one of your art pieces, and participate in an interview with the music and art team.
