Promoting literacy and developing a lifelong love of reading is important to all of us here at OYIS. Our teacher librarian, Nicholette Carroll, helps our students become competent and ethical users of information, as well as media-savvy, digital citizens. We offer students a safe, welcoming, and inspiring environment for self-organized reading and learning during breaks, as well as before, and after school. There’s a wide range of resources available to our students and families including books, eBooks, magazines, eAudiobooks, online subscription databases, and encyclopedias.
Each of our campuses has a set of libraries designed for the main users of that campus. At Nakatsu, the library is stocked with texts to assist in the development of younger minds. Tosabori’s two libraries serve middle and high school students, and provide a place to do research.
Our OYIS libraries are for students, teachers, and parents alike. We believe parents are an integral part of their children’s education and we encourage them to check out books and materials to read with their OYIS students and their younger siblings.OYIS believes strongly in the right to intellectual freedom.
